Elko Nevada Weather - Forum

Elko experienced some major weather changes during the week. Temperatures that were well above normal dropped to temperature well below the seasonal average. The drop of temperatures was preceded by strong and gusty winds. We reached a peak gust of 50.8mph in the early morning hours of December 13. Rain, turning into ice and snow almost instantly, covered the northwest facing camera lens. Saturday morning, we had over 2" of snow and received probably another 1" throughout the day with sustained winds in the 20mph range.

The temperatures today have hovered in the mid teens. The high so far was 18 degrees and with the wind picking up again, the mercury started to drop to 15 degrees. Wind chill is definitely something to be aware off and exposure should be limited unless properly dressed. The NWS is calling for lows in the single digit range at night and in the mid to high 20s during the daytime.

On 18DEC08 in the early morning hours, we received a good 3 inches of snow, followed by another 2 inches on Friday afternoon. The wind kicked up and started to create some snow drifts. More wind is forecast today and tonight as the next cold front moves into the region. Roads are, of course, very icy. At 1500, the sun managed to break through the clouds for a brief period of time.
